President’s Message

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

We are delighted to inform you that, the Sri Lanka committee for the treatment and research in multiple sclerosis & related disorders (SLCTRIMS) was founded by me and the current executive committee comprising of Drs. Harsha Gunasekera, T.Thivakaran, Arjuna Fernando & Prof. Thashi Chang in December 2018.

SLCTRIMS is an independent professional organization consisting of specialist neurologists with a special interest in multiple sclerosis and related disorders, sharing knowledge, expertise and research on the diagnosis and management of patients affected with these diseases. We hope to promote and enhance clinical research and learning and improve networking whilst collaborating with similar international organizations. Also we intend to create greater awareness among medical professionals & members of allied services with the aim of providing the best available care for our patients. We plan to liaise with health care providers and administrators as professional representatives on matters relating to these disorders to get the best outcomes for our patients.

SLCTRIMS is modeled after similar regional and national organizations such as the European, American, Latin America, Pan Asia & India Committees on Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS, ACTRIMS, LACTRIMS, PACTRIMS & ICTRIMS).

In addition we hope to work closely with the Pan-Asian Committee on Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (PACTRIMS) which is our regional partner. Current PACTRIMS President Prof. Kazuo Fujihara has extended his fullest support for SLCTRIMS and helped us, link up with the European Charcot foundation (ECF) a leading MS research group in Europe currently led by Prof. Giancarlo Comi. In October 2019 a SLCTRIMS-ECF collaborative symposium would be taking place in Colombo along with the inaugural SLCTRIMS congress. This would be an excellent opportunity for the specialist neurologists, paediatric neurologists, ophthalmologists and trainees to gain comprehensive knowledge on these disorders. We eagerly look forward to welcoming everyone for this important event (Ref: conference page).

Warm regards
